Nostalgic

Drinks

The foundation of my designs surrounds my youth in London, from playing hopscotch on the playground to walking through a park on a cold morning finding peculiar things, these ideas have been expressed on sweatshirts using sole prints. A fitting way to reflect London as you either grow up with an interest in sneakers or at least being aware of them and the implications they have.

This current series of 3 further looks at London, but its vibrancy, my previous work makes its point without the use of colour, as composition and foot placement can tell the story. However, I wanted to move away from using sneakers and focus on more colours and patterns, that was the direction I was always heading to, stand-alone designs that don’t need current sneaker hype to provide value.

The bold colours and transitions reminded me of the drinks I had after school. I was always sent to the shops by my mum, often 2 times a day as she’d forget an ingredient and I’d always grab a chocolate bar and occasionally a drink. After all them years boss man still didn’t bless me a discount. I grew up with a culture that was shared by practically all of us in school, something many of us can relate to even now and it’s those connections between logos, colours and probably a brick wall outside of school that makes me feel nostalgic.

However with nostalgia comes reflection, a reminder of how far you have come and maybe a time to note things to change. Within myself aside from the laughs hanging with friends, it reminds me of my health, the bold colours and logos they’re eye-catching but they’ll be part of products that will snatch up your quality of life if not limited. looking back at the sweats I made I originally made this olive-like colourway that I thought was like Pepsi, however, looking back at it a month later it reminded me of something else, the neutral tones felt more mature, more peaceful, eventually reminded me of tea from East Asia and the culture associated with it, yes it’s not nostalgic, but in a way it is, because it’s reminding me of the characteristics I’m working towards, finding more peace in life, focusing on my health and with a clear head I could be the best me there is, and that reflects the importance of colour.
