Studying a drawing and conceptual course at the University of the Arts London , Akraam delved into oil paintings and sculpture, he felt the mediums allowed him to be expressive, the oil paint in its fluidity and motion, and using found objects/ raw materials to expose structures, play with perspective and discuss ideas without coating them, the true value of the work came from the idea trying to be conveyed no matter what the medium.

Akraam’s sculptural influence can be seen across the board within his practice, reworking the ready-made using household items, unique materials, and innovative techniques, every piece he creates is an exploration of form and function to best visualise a concept, all bound together by the craftsmanship and a light touch for those finer details.

A Prime example of this would be the white Airmax 97 called ‘The £30 Tailor’ a sculpture based on a conversation he had with his brother who once told him he’ll just end up as “one of those tailors in them shops charging £30”.

This piece resembled that conversation and a small fraction of the lack of support he faces within his family. using various methods and materials he has shown both his aesthetic preferences yet the depth of context. The fabric of the tongue and strap that was stitched on is from a £25 shirt, the sole filled with plaster expresses the weight of the negativity he faces, the airmax itself is his brothers old shoe, and this was displayed in his first exhibition, in a way the response to this piece contradicts the conversation had, as many people turned up to see his work.

Although he was already producing paintings and sculptures during his foundation year at UAL, Akraam felt that his journey as an independent artist began after customising his first pair of sneakers back in June 2018. Since then he has explored his concepts within footwear, fashion and fine art.

He recently delved into digital art, using software such as procreate, photoshop and illustrator, a combination that allows him to create supporting work and promotion for his craft.
